Of couse you need to reinstall the game, either from the cd's or via the downloaded client from the Guild Wars website. Then just login like usual and play on.

Install from the Nightfall CDs, since they are the most up to date.
Simply there is only one game client, but new content is added to each of the three games. This means you will only need to install the game once, but keep in mind any data you don't have will need to be downloaded.

I have a follow up on this question. I have been playing GuildWars for about a week (love it). I need to reformat my notebook because of some technical issues (unrelated to GW). With respect to not loosing my current character and place in the game - do I need to save off any data files to add back to the Guid Wars folder after I reinstall Guild Wars? Or is all of the important data kept on a GW server so my only concern is the reinstallation? Thanks!

Ok, the client (the installation on your PC) has no bearing on your characters, place in the game etc, as that is all stored on the servers at ANet's little hole in the ground
you could go round to your mates, install it there, log in and start to play straight away just to show him how it worked, and then, on the same client, sign him up to GW and make him an account and buy it fromt he ingame store... he could then come round to your house (as you'll probably have a better PC) and log in to his accoutn on your machine...
hell, i can goto a Korean CyberCafe and log in there... I love this game
